Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
